MILITARY SPECIFICATION
CUTTING MACHINE, OXYGEN FLAME AND PLASMA ARC, AUTOMATIC, STATIONARY,
PHOTOELECTRIC TRACER CONTROLLED
This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of
the Department of Defense.
SCOPE
1.
1 . 1 Scope.
T h i s specification covers stationary, automatic, flame and
p l a s m a arc cutting machines for cutting various shapes from steel plate or
o t h e r materials. T h e machines are controlled by a photoelectric tracer cap-
a b l e of tracing line drawings.
The plasma arc system used with the cutting
machines is covered by MIL-C-80090.
1 . 2 C l a s s i f i c a t i o n . T h i s specification covers cutting machines of the
f o l l o w i n g types and sizes.
T h e type and size to be furnished, shall be as
s p e c i f i e d (see 6.2.1).
Type
I
- F o r cutting with an oxygen-fuel gas torch having
s t r a i g h t line and contour cutting speeds with a
r a n g e of not greater than 2 inches per minute
(IPM) to not less than 40 IPM.
Type II -
F o r cutting with a plasma arc torch or oxygen-
fuel gas torch having straight line cutting
s p e e d with a range of not greater than 50 IPM
to not less than 240 IPM and contour cutting
speed of not greater than 2 IPM to not less than
120
IPM.
