COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION BRAZING AND SOLDERING SET (ACETYLENE GAS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers brazing and soldering sets that are designed to burn acetylene gas in ambient air and intended for light brazing and soldering.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The brazing and soldering set shall be of the acetylene gas type as specified herein.
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 General requirements. The brazing and soldering set shall include some or all of the following: acetylene gas pressure regulator, torch body, torch tips, soldering iron tip, hose assembly, adaptor, wrench, flint lighter, and carrying case, as specified in 7.3, and other items considered by the manufacturer as standard for the set.
3.2 Components. The brazing and soldering set shall include, as a minimum, the following components:
3.2.1 Pressure regulator. The pressure regulator shall conform to the Underwriters Laboratory UL 252, "Standard for Safety for Compressed Gas Regulators" (DoD adopted). The inlet connector shall conform to Compressed Gas Association (CGA) V-1, "Standard for Compressed Gas Cylinder Valve Outlet and Inlet Connections" (DoD adopted), and fit a type B acetylene gas tank. The outlet connector shall be a type A conforming to CGA E-1, "Standard Connections for Regulator Outlets, Torches, and Fitted Hose for Welding and Cutting Equipment" (DoD
adopted). The pressure regulator shall include a gauge indicating the content of the acetylene gas tank in at least four increments of 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and FULL. The gauge shall have a minimum
pressure rating of 400 pounds per square inch. The pressure regulator shall have a means to
manually adjust the outlet pressure up to a maximum of 15 pounds per square inch.
