specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies
and services conform to prescribed requirements.
T h e inspection requirements speci-
4.2 Classification of inspections.

First article inspection (see 4.3).

Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4) .
4.3 First article inspection.
When a first article inspection is re-
q u i r e d , i t s h a l l be applied to the first article submitted in accordance
w i t h 3.1.

4.4
Q u a l i t y conformance inspection.
Q u a l i t y conformance inspection
s h a l l be applied to each i t e m p r i o r t o b e i n g offered for acceptance under
the contract.
U n l e s s otherwise specified (see 6.2.1), quality conformance
inspection shall consist of at least the examination in 4.5, the test in
4 . 6 , 1 , and the inspection in 4,7.
F a i l u r e of the item to pass the examina-
t i o n , test, and inspection shall be cause for rejection.
4.5 Examination.
The machine and equipment shall be visually examined
t o determine compliance with all requirements of this specification.
4.6 Tests.
4 . 6 . 1 O p e r a t i o n a l t e s t . The machine shall be properly connected to the
e l e c t r i c power source, the oxygen supply, and the specified fuel gas supply,
A l l components of the gas system shall be thoroughly checked for external
leaks.
G a s pressures shall be set in accordance with the supplier's recom-
mendations.
A c e t y l e n e pressure shall not exceed 15 PSI. All torches shall
b e ignited and adjusted to obtain a neutral flame cone pattern.
Ignition
a n d flame cycle of the torches shall be repeated 10 times per minute for a
minimum of 3 minutes.
D u r i n g the performance tests, the oxygen fuel gas
torches shall maintain satisfactory continuous operation without adjust-
ments, blowbacks, o r backfires when the oxygen pressure is increased or
d e c r e a s e d 6 PSI gauge pressure from its pre-selected setting.
The machine
s h a l l be operated for 30 minutes, d u r i n g which time all components shall be
t e s t e d through their full range without performing any cutting operations.
T h e machine shall be tested to assure that, w h e n the tracer loses the line
i t i s f o l l o w i n g , t h e machine drive, t h e flow of gases to all torches, and
t h e electric power to the plasma torch shall be automatically shut off.
